As she was very pretty, she was called "Lalka" (Doll). In 1944, when the
communists confiscated her father's manorial farm in Zacisze near Biala Podlaska,
she and her mother moved to Biala Podlaska. Her father was arrested by the
communists in 1944, held in Biala Podlaska and in Siedlce and then taken to a
Soviet death camp in Orsza, where he died (or was executed by the Soviets) in 1945. She kept a lot of
memorabilia, including photo albums dating to the 19th century that she
inherited from her mother and her aunt Helena. She has a daughter Zofia that
lives with her daughter (also named Zofia) in Germany.
