Tomasz is our oldest documented ancestor. The first document that mentions his name is the list of the members of the Brotherhood of the Holy Rosary dated 1713. Although this document is in Latin, his first name is spelled "Tomek", a popular Polish diminutive of Tomasz (Thomas). The marriage certificate lists only the first name of his bride (Zofia) and her village of origin (Samorzatki, now spelled Samorzadki). Her maiden name appeared only in some baptismal records of their children. Tomasz died before 1772, the year Zofia passed away, because in her death certificate, she is listed as a widow. Out of his ten children, only five lived long enough to get married. In some baptismal records of Tomasz's children it is mentioned that he was working for the Church. Starting with the baptismal record of his fourth child, Thomas is mentioned as "subject of the Church". His parents are unknown to us, but we linked him to two other person with the same surname (Zofia and Andrzej) that could have been his siblings. Andrzej worked for the Church as well and is also listed as a member of the Brotherhood of the Holy Rosary as Jedrzey - old Polish spelling of the name Andrzej (Andrew). |
