Jacek Blaszkiewicz was born in New York , and first started playing piano at age
9. His first steps in music were taken in Jan Sporek's Music Education Center in
Brooklyn, New York. Six months after he started, he performed on the piano for
the first time in the Consulate General of Poland. There he received the Best
Beginner Award from the Music Education Center. A year later, he performed in
the same place, this time being awarded with the Student of the Year Award, the
school's top prize. The award was handed to him by the late Prof. Jan Gorbaty,
pianist and president of the Chopin Foundation. In 2000, Jacek won first place
in a Youth Chopin Competition in Queens. Throughout the course of a few years,
Jacek performed in numerous public places, like in the Kosciusko Foundation
House, and the Crowne Plaza Hotel in New Jersey , where he played an all-Chopin
program. Jacek is currently in 10th grade at LaGuardia High School of Music &
Art and Performing Arts, where he was accepted for piano, and where he also
currently studies oboe. He currently studies piano privately with Mark Pakman,
teacher at Montclair University, the 92nd Street Y School of Music, and at the
Manhattan School of Music. In 2004, Jacek won First Place in Keyboard at the
Wagner College Young Musicians� Competition, High School category. Besides
music, Jacek also writes in his spare time. He received a number of awards for
his poetry. One of them was published in an anthology.
