He was a servant and then a gardener in Trebaczew. His surname recorded in the marriage certificate and in the birth certificate of his children was Snopek and not Snopczynski.   Apparently, his son Edward decided to "gentrify" his surname from the simple peasant surname of Snopek to Snopczynski - a surname sounding like of a nobleman.
